How do I get to Qinghai from Hong Kong or Taiwan?

From Hong Kong you can fly straight into Xining or connect through Xi'an or Chengdu; from Taiwan most routes go via Shanghai, Chengdu or Xiamen. Xining also has a high-speed rail station linking Lanzhou and Xi'an, so we can shape the route around your arrival. We arrange transfers so someone meets you on arrival.

The routes that work from Hong Kong and Taiwan

Xining is the gateway to Qinghai, and it is easier to reach than many travellers expect. From Hong Kong there are direct flights into Xining, and plenty of one-stop options through Xi'an or Chengdu when the direct timings do not suit. From Taiwan, most itineraries connect through Shanghai, Chengdu or Xiamen before the final hop. We watch the schedules for you and pick the combination that keeps the travel days short.

Xining is also a high-speed rail stop on the line linking Lanzhou and Xi'an, so if you would rather arrive by train and see a little more of the countryside, that is a comfortable alternative.

Arrival, transfers and meeting your guide

However you arrive, someone will be waiting. Your driver meets you at the airport or station with your name on a board, and we confirm the exact number of travellers and bags in advance so the right vehicle turns up. There are no strangers sharing your car: the private vehicle is yours for the whole trip, and the driver and the guide are two different people, one driving and one looking after you.

  • Direct or one-stop flights into Xining from Hong Kong
  • Taiwan routes via Shanghai, Chengdu or Xiamen
  • High-speed rail from Lanzhou or Xi'an as an alternative
  • A named meet-and-greet on arrival, vehicle sized to your group

If something goes wrong in the air

Flights get cancelled and delayed, and when they do we rework the pick-up rather than leave you stranded. We re-coordinate the transfer time before you land and, where it helps, move the first night's hotel closer to the airport so the day ends calmly instead of in a rush.

Our Hong Kong guests are looked after by Cantonese-speaking guides and our Taiwan guests by Mandarin-speaking guides, so nothing gets lost in translation on a tired arrival evening.
