Why you should say something at once
Feeling unwell during a trip is the last thing you should tough out. Tell your guide immediately and contact your consultant as well, and both will act on the spot. The sooner the information reaches us, the more we can arrange, and the safer you are.
Highland trips need particular care. A headache, poor sleep or a lost appetite are common mild reactions, but a persistent headache, vomiting or difficulty breathing is not something to shrug off. Our first principle is safety: the itinerary can be adjusted, but your health is not something to gamble with.
Some guests worry that speaking up will spoil the trip for the others. There is no need. Our guides and consultants have handled all kinds of situations and know how to deal with the urgent thing first, without derailing the whole party, and only then discuss whether the day should change.
How we respond
We help arrange care at the nearest hospital or clinic, with the guide there to interpret, and we contact family if you want us to. Following the doctor's advice we reshape the days ahead, moving the more demanding parts later or replacing them. The same consultant follows you on WhatsApp with 7×24 emergency support, and you are never passed to a call centre.
- Nearby care: we help arrange the closest hospital or clinic.
- Interpretation: the guide accompanies you and helps with communication.
- Reshaping the trip: we move or replace the tiring parts on the doctor's advice.
- Reassuring family: we can contact relatives to put their minds at ease.
What to watch out for
The vehicle carries oxygen and basic first-aid supplies, and on highland routes we pay particular attention to pace and rest. We keep the first two days gentle, staying lower before climbing gradually, so your body has time to adjust.
It is worth handing your regular medication and emergency contact details to both the guide and the consultant before you set off. If you have a heart, blood pressure or respiratory condition, please speak to a doctor first and tell us when you book.
When to just ask us
If you or a companion has a chronic condition, a medication need or a mobility aid, tell us when you enquire. We will adjust the route and the pace accordingly and think through the contingencies in advance.
