Why child seats need advance notice
When you travel with a small child, safety comes first. A child seat can be arranged, but only with notice, because different vehicle models take different fittings and a request made on the day may not be possible. That is a limit of the vehicle supply itself, not a reluctance on our part.
There is a second reason to speak up early. Knowing your child's age and height lets us choose a seat that actually fits, whether that is a full child seat or a booster cushion, rather than grabbing whatever happens to be free.
The type of seat has to suit the child's weight and height, because one that is too small or too large offers little protection. If you use a familiar seat at home, mention it when you enquire and we will check whether it can be fixed securely in the car we plan to send.
How we match the seat to the child
Give us your child's age and height and we will select the appropriate child seat or booster, then confirm the installation before departure. If several young children are travelling, tell us together so we can send a vehicle with the room and the seating you need.
- Age and height: these decide whether a child seat or a booster is right.
- Number of young children: more than one may need a larger vehicle with more seats.
- Tell us early: raise it when the itinerary is confirmed, as vehicles are tight in remote areas.
- Check before departure: we confirm the seat is fitted and remind you to check the seat belts.
What to watch out for
In some remote areas the choice of vehicles and fittings is limited, so please raise the request when the plan is confirmed rather than at the last minute. If notice is short we will still try to help, but we will not pretend it is guaranteed.
Your child's safety is a priority when we assign a vehicle. Before you set off we also remind you to check that the belts are in order, so parents can relax. On the road, if a child needs a rest or a toilet stop, the driver will pull over as the day allows.
